ASEAN-JAPAN FINE ARTS COLLEGES NETWORK

February 9-11th, 2015

The ASEAN-Japan Fine Arts Colleges Network Meeting was held from 9 to 11 February 2015 at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, Indonesia with the cooperation of Japan Foundation, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the Mission of Japan to ASEAN. The meeting was held as one of the “WA projects” with the aim of building a platform to expand existing bilateral exchanges between Japan and ASEAN countries to a regional endeavour. There were 10 arts universities/colleges/institutes joined this event. Japan Foundation, ASEAN Secretariat as well as the Mission of Japan to ASEAN were also present. Dr. M.Agus Burhan (Rector of ISI Yogyakarta), Mr. Tadashi Ogawa (Director of the Japan Foundation Jakarta), Ms. Yukiko Okano (Mission of Japan to ASEAN), and Mr. Ky Anh (the ASEAN Secretariat) took part on this event by giving their remarks and presentation.

Of the three-day program, the participants of The ASEAN-Japan Fine Arts Colleges Network were actively giving their contribution to share and discuss any possible opportunity for further collaborative programs among Japan and ASEAN art colleges.

On 10th February, ASEAN Secretariat and Japan Foundation introduced their activities on culture and art among ASEAN region. Representatives from arts colleges in ASEAN Member States then introduced their activities on international collaboration and possible ideas for future collaborative projects making use of the network. After participants attended the Batik (Indonesian traditional dyed textile) workshop, instructors and students then separately discussed expectations for the network.

On 11th February, based on the outcome of the group discussion, participants actively exchanged views on the network.

ISI Yogyakarta, based on the contents of the discussion at this meeting, will follow-up the establishment of the network with the support of Japan Foundation and the Mission of Japan to ASEAN.
